www.solar-electric.com Devoted to selling solar panels, wind turbines, and off-the-grid hardware

www.homepower.com A magazine featuring articles on environmentally friendly home power generation, etc... This site is very informative and interesting. Be sure to check out the power guerrilla biographies - about people who donate power back to the grid for free (and illegally) because they get so fed up with the red tape and hassles that would make their efforts partially rewarding (financially)!

www.bergey.com This site has great information on wind turbines!

Sleepy Hollow Friends of the Earth Program:

  • Sleepy Hollow will proudly give a free day pass to the operator of a hybrid, electric, or renewable energy vehicle, every time the car is driven to Sleepy Hollow.

We here at Sleepy Hollow Inn, Ski & Bike Center are acutely aware of the excessive pollution caused by automobile exhaust, and we wish to do as much as possible to 1.) raise awareness of alternative means of transportation and 2.) support the choices of those who find environmentally sound alternatives to the internal combustion engine. In an effort to do our part, we've started using biodiesel provided by Paul Butler at www.veggiefuels.com in our tractor. Boy does the exhaust smell good! To those who have taken the environmental initiative, we salute you!

Below is a portfolio of those who have taken us up on our offer.

This is Paul and his daughter, next to their vegetable oil-powered Volkswagon. Paul refines used frying oil from the Burlington area into a diesel substitute. His exhaust smells like french fries! Check out his webpage: Paul has opened a biodiesel refinery, so we now have a renewable, environmentally friendly gas station in the area!

Fred and Phoebe Erdman next to their Honda Insight. This awesome car gets 70 mpg with summer tires! Fred purchased this car at the Automaster on Shelburne Road and can go 600 miles on one tank of gas. This is quite a car! www.honda.com for more info about the Insight
Eli Enman driving a 1984 Nissan Sentra (diesel) on biodiesel. I am very proud to be making a difference in Vermont's air quality!
Dave Enman, shown intensely focused on environmental friendliness, enjoys his New Holland bio-diesel tractor.

Our Goals

Our goals at Sleepy Hollow Inn are multi-faceted and we take them very seriously:

  • First and foremost, we want every customer to be 100% satisfied with every aspect of their Sleepy Hollow experience.
  • We will maintain our trails to the highest standards, both in summer and winter.
  • We advocate the reduction of fossil-fuel consumption. Sleepy Hollow will proudly give a free day pass to the operator of a hybrid, electric, or renewable energy vehicle, every time the car is driven to Sleepy Hollow. Sleepy Hollow Friends of the Earth Program
  • We will manage our 877 acres of woodlands using the most modern, conservation-oriented forestry techniques. We are currently enrolled in the state Land-Use forestry program. This ensures responsible and sustainable silviculture techniques are used to harvest forest products from land. (The tax breaks help keep this land from being developed, too.)
  • We will be good neighbors who are both understanding of and responsive to our neighborhood. Please help us out, by driving slowly and carefully along the dirt roads leading to Sleepy Hollow.

Who We Are

In October, 1999, the Enman Family of St. George, VT, founded Sleepy Hollow on the site of the old Sherman Hollow Touring Center. Sandy, a CPA, has her own accounting firm, Enman & Associates. Dave, a builder and bookstore owner, and his son, Eli, a recent Middlebury College graduate, spent a year completely renovating the Inn and the trails. Eli is now the General Manager. The Enmans have dreamed of owning an inn and ski center for years; it is very exciting to be getting their dreams off the ground.
